LIVING AS KINGS AND PRIESTS: GOD’S CHOSEN GOVERNMENT

I want to reiterate a couple of important sentences from the last chapter. The order of Melchizedek is the functioning of God’s people in both the role of a king and the role of a priest. This is how Jesus our High Priest lived, and this is how we as His Kingdom of priests are called to live, as well. I believe the lack of living in and through this lifestyle is the reason so many Christians live below their potential and have unfulfilled prophecies in their lives which has led to disappointment and even sometimes falling away from the faith. They are waiting on God to breakthrough and He is waiting for them to seek first His Kingdom and learn how to live in righteousness—His ways—partnering with Him to bring their breakthrough into the earth.

In the vision that the Lord gave to Zerubbabel in Zechariah 4, the trees had two branches that poured the anointing into the candlestick, the seven churches. So the branches/trees represent the two branches that make up the governmental authority of heaven on the earth. As I mentioned before, there are three branches in the U.S. government: executive, legislative, and judicial. Each of the branches of government have duties that pertain to their respective branches, and they are designed to flow together as one to accomplish the goal of governing.

Likewise, the two branches of the government of heaven, the priestly and kingly branches, involve certain functions meant to operate together. Most of the Church sees these two roles as two occupations. They believe the role of the priests are for those who serve in the church and the role of the kings are those who serve in the marketplace. This is 100 percent wrong. The new priesthood is every believer; an internal governance that influences external reality. This internal government replaced the law that ruled God’s people through behavioral management. The law has now gone inward and is written on our hearts.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God and they shall be My people (Hebrews 8:10).

The main functions of priests and kings can be understood as the following:

Priests: Worship, Prayer, Thanksgiving

The function of the priestly branch of God’s government is to fill up the bowls in heaven through worship, prayer, and giving thanks to God for who He is, what He is doing and has done. The priests offer up thanksgiving and praise and enter into His presence and use their eyes and ears to see and hear what is in heaven.

Kings: Prophecy, Intercession, Preaching the Gospel through Power

The function of the kingly branch of God’s government is to use their mouths to release prophecy, intercession, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom with power and healing. As kings, they speak and release what they see and hear in their roles as priests.
